Hello all - It's been a minute!
Let's talk about something crucial that often gets lost in the noise of social media:
Value.
Your social media strategy should be rooted in one thing—adding value to your audience.
Ugh, we've all heard this before from the "gurus" but what does this really mean?
Here are the 3 main ways you can add value to your followers' scroll session and should help drive your content planning:
1. Entertainment
Let's face it—people scroll through social platforms for entertainment. That doesn't mean you need to go viral or become the next meme queen. Unless you want to and I am HERE for that! Simply being authentic, creative and fun with your content can go a long way. Share your behind-the-scenes moments, funny stories or engaging posts that make people smile and happy they tuned in.
2. Education
Your audience is on social media not just for entertainment but also to learn. Whether it's quick tips, how-tos or industry insights, your content should aim to teach your audience something they didn't know before.
When you help your audience solve problems or improve their lives somehow, you build trust, which turns into loyalty. Bing, Bam, Boom!
3. A Reward or Gain
Everyone loves to feel like they've gained something from the content they consume. Whether it's a special offer or an exclusive tip, give your followers a reason to stick around and engage.
This doesn't always have to be transactional—it can be as simple as helping them feel like they're part of a special community.
Who's Determining What Around Here?
Here's the thing: The ultimate goal of platforms like Instagram isn't to help you grow—it's to keep people on the platform longer. That's right, Instagram's primary focus is to show content that keeps people doom scrolling.
If the algorithm detects through long track rapid eye movement that your content doesn't hold your audience's attention for long, it has now clocked that this content isn't desirable and will show it less.

The longer someone stays engaged with your content—whether liking, commenting, or watching through to the end—the more likely your content will be shared with others.
So, What Does This Mean for You?
To thrive on Instagram (or any social platform), your content needs to do one thing: Keep people engaged. If you're posting for the sake of posting, without considering whether it's providing value (one of those 3 points above), the algorithm will simply ghost you. .
What You Can Do Today:
Start focusing on what adds value: Whether educating, entertaining, or giving something of value to your followers, make it about them, not just your product/service. It could also be a combo of the two: Edu-taining!
Be consistent: Don't just post when you feel like it. Create a plan and stick to it so your audience knows when to expect valuable content.
Engage with your audience: The more you interact with your followers, the more you'll stay top-of-mind.
Remember, social media isn't just a place to post your products or services. It's about building relationships, offering value, and ensuring your audience feels connected to your brand.
The more meaningful your content is, the more likely the algorithm will work in your favour, showing your posts to more people.
So, next time you're crafting a post, ask yourself: How does this add value to my audience's life?
