Maybe you have heard about the popularity of Instagram (IG) REELS. But did you know video in general (Reels, IGTV, and LIVES) are officially a big push now? The head of IG, Adam Mosseri recently said "Instagram is no longer a square photo-sharing app." Meaning jump on the video bandwagon!
Why, you ask? IG is trying to compete with TikTok and YouTube. Maybe you’ve tried REELS, but aren’t seeing any results just yet. Don’t lose hope! Let’s figure this thing out. We will all have to use REELS more than just once and a while.
Here are a few common mistakes that can tank your REELS results and ways to fix them:
1. Your Reels aren't relevant to your ideal audience
i.e. you have a vegan bakery but are sharing REELS about fashion
2. You don't post consistently
Posting REELS here and there won’t cut it
Build REELS into your weekly plan i.e. if you post 3x per week, sub in a REEL and take out a still image post.
3. You have no strategy
What are you hoping to gain from this REEL?
Make sure your viewer is inspired, educated, or entertained by your REEL
Are you using a CTA (Call to Action?)
4. You have boring content
I know that sounds harsh, but REELS need to be entertaining. You don’t need to be Jim Carrey or Gilda Radner funny, but this is SOCIAL MEDIA! People came to have fun.
5. You aren't using trending audio
This is a biggie. Trending audio makes your Reel exciting, relatable, and familiar
Try to find tunes from other REELS because the selection of music for an IG Business Account is thumbs down.
